Integrate

We integrate what we have learnt and what we know now with other commissioning cycles and for our future cycles to benefit the whole-system reform.

Integrate is how we continually improve the practice, experience and outcomes for commissioning and the service system.

Consider all the materials developed through the commissioning cycle, data, outcome reports, and lived experience surfaced and the feedback received on the commissioning experience.

The shared principles inform the lessons learnt assessment template. This template is used by Commissioners to reflect and identify areas to improve the experience and practice quality.

Using the case study template reflect on how you undertook each commissioning phase and include what you learnt through the cycle. Make this a plain English, concise case study and publish it on the commissioning website at Commissioning Case Studies – Commissioning (act.gov.au)

Audit your materials, data, listening reports and lessons learnt – what other commissioning processes could benefit from these insights?

Use the Roadmap to identify related commissioning cycles, contact other commissioning teams or use other forums to share your lessons learnt and connect with interested teams.

Participate in related commissioning cycles to ensure joined up approaches are designed and opportunities for service integration identified early.

Commissioning is a continuous cycle.  One cycle may not be able to resolve all strategic issues identified.  Where this occurs, releasing your commissioning intentions will signal to all stakeholders which issues will be addressed over a longer timeframe or future commissioning cycles.  It will also inform the shift to commissioning of systems in a planned way. The materials developed, the insights gained, and the lessons learnt will be of value to the next cycle. Ensure the key materials are stored in an accessible and searchable way for future commissioners.

Share your materials with the strategic commissioning teams so that they can support integration across separate commissioning cycles.

  • One of the most critical insights from the commissioning cycle will be the voices of lived experience. People are never neatly related to one service or one demographic characteristics or cohort.
  • People’s experiences intersect across demographics and the service landscape.
  • Where you have heard the voices of lived experience and captured this within the commissioning materials, these are valuable and sought-after insights.
  • Each discovery phase prompts commissioners to identify existing lived experience voices.
  • With appropriate consents and privacy considerations, ensure that the lived experience stories, narratives, or insights are available to other commissioning cycles.  (Intersectionality refers to an understanding of these social categorisations as they apply to individuals but also, to the responsiveness of services to the range of needs of these groups.)
