Our growing Canberra population influences our economy, infrastructure needs, our environment, and our service landscape.

Every commissioning cycle undertakes a needs assessment to shape a service to meet community needs – the services we design today, needs to also evolve, and meet the needs of tomorrow in a growing community.

Population projections and demographics are important for needs assessments. When we combine this data with other sources and lived experience, we can help identify potential service needs and project how demand may be impacted over time.

ACT Treasury recently released the latest population data indicating the inner north, Molonglo Valley and Belconnen are expected to be the fastest-growing districts. We have a relatively young population too, with a large share of residents (68 per cent) aged 15 to 64.
