INVEST series – Secure Local Jobs Code

Many commissioning cycles are moving into investment phases. We continue our spotlight series to help prepare for procurement by looking at the Secure Local Jobs Code (the Code).

Local first. This tenant is behind the Code. It means that we give local organisations and workers opportunities, create jobs, and grow our local economy.

That local community focus is at the heart of many community and health sector organisations providing services in the Canberra region. We live, we care, we support and we work with our community every day.

The Code asks organisations to demonstrate how they create jobs for the local community, so that when government invests, we are investing in the local economy, and for our sector – in outcomes for people in our community.

The Code applies to government investments over $200,000 with any organisation with an Australian Business Number (ABN) that can include non-government organisations, sole traders, partnerships, trusts and companies.

When responding to tenders for community or health services, you may need a Code Certificate that confirms your organisation meets the standards of the Secure Local Jobs Code. Without a Code Certificate, we may not be able to accept your tender or quote.

To get a Code Certificate, you need to engage an approved auditor who will guide you through the process, help you with the information you need to provide, and submit your application to the Secure Local Jobs Code Registrar. Applying for a Code Certificate can be done at any time.
