In 2024, we are approaching the mid-point of the ten-year human service reform and refocusing the strategic approach on key reform priorities, sector sustainability, service integration and outcome and demand data.
This year, as part of this ongoing work, we are looking to develop and release discussion papers and facilitate engagements so that we can continue to shape practical approaches to address the reform priorities we agreed to in 2021. We will invite you to contribute to these discussions.
A key priority for human service reform is policy, systems, and governance.
Specifically, that changes to current systems, policy and governance processes are needed to enable co-production and integrate commissioning outcomes with the ACT Wellbeing Framework.
Integration is about how we ensure a seamless service response for people in need.
Through multiple commissioning activities we know that people needing support rarely present with a single challenge. Often people present with multiple challenges which require cross sector and multidisciplinary involvement and collaboration.
Service providers often find organic and innovative ways to wrap services around individuals and families or take heroic steps to implement the right supports where they are needed.
Other times there are barriers to service connections, referrals, and seamless support for Canberrans.
Through commissioning, we are taking a deeper look at what we need to do to make seamless service response the norm in our human service system. We will look to what is happening around the world and in other jurisdictions across Australia We will also shine light on examples closer to home where high quality seamless service delivery has been achieved, such as when we worked together to establish the COVID-19 Quarantine Support Hub: Ragusa.
