2018 - ACT Senior Australian of the Year Nominee
Fourteen years ago, Diane Kargas made the decision to commit to her charitable work on a fulltime basis. She resigned from her senior role in the ACT Public Service to dedicate her life to the Canberra community.
Using her skills in financial management, governance and administration, Diane has made a tremendous contribution to a range of charities, tackling challenges from homelessness to social inclusion to bushfire recovery.
Dianne is passionate about building the social capital of her community and supporting philanthropic endeavour. Her work to reduce homelessness led to her appointment as Chair of Common Ground, an organisation that supports supportive and inclusive low-cost housing.
As Chair of Hands Across Canberra, Diane brings together businesses, charities, government and individuals to channel donations to local charities, while providing leadership and celebrating community spirit and generosity.
Despite her own health challenges, Diane continues to be driven by her deep and unwavering belief that people who experience disadvantage deserve help to restore their dignity.
