Office of the Coordinator-General for Family SafetyGet out of here

The Office of the Coordinator-General for Family Safety is part of the ACT Government’s Community Services Directorate. The office leads whole-of-government efforts to improve the ACT’s response to family and domestic violence. We work in partnership with other ACT Government directorates, Australian Government departments, the community, service providers and the private sector to:

Our vision is for a future where everyone can live free from domestic and family violence and abuse. We know change is possible if anyone impacted by or using violence and abuse is given the right support at the right time through a service system that is connected and integrated.

Safer Families team

The Safer Families team is responsible for research and policy, government-wide initiatives, innovation and new approaches. The Safer Families team is driving the reform of domestic and family violence services and support in the ACT.

Family Safety Hub

The Family Safety Hub is working in partnership with government, the private and community services sector to design, test and evaluate new ideas that can have a tangible positive impact on the lives of those affected by domestic and family violence. The Family Safety Hub is focussed on priority areas including preventing housing and financial crisis, supporting children and young people and early intervention for pregnant women and new families.

Coordinator-GeneralKristy Windeyer

The Coordinator-General provides strategic leadership, whole-of-government collaboration and coordination of the government’s response to domestic and family violence. The Coordinator-General works across government and with the community services sectors to develop new policy, services and approaches that improve how the ACT Government responds to domestic and family violence.

Kirsty Windeyer was appointed the Coordinator-General for Family Safety in April 2020.

Kirsty has significant experience as a senior executive lawyer and leading public sector organisations. Recently Kirsty was the CEO of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory and Special Counsel/Executive Director of the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce. Kirsty was the inaugural Principal Solicitor of the ACT Women’s Legal Centre.

Having worked in the community, private and government sectors, Kirsty brings experience and knowledge from across those sectors and feels privileged to lead, in partnership with the community, the whole of government effort to improve the ACT’s response to family and domestic violence.
