Safer Families

Domestic and family violence is not, and never will be, acceptable in the ACT community.Quick Exit

Family violence has negative consequences for all of us. It violates the human rights of those affected, reduces access to housing and employment, impairs children’s health and development and is costly to our economy and our community.

Family violence does not discriminate based on age, income levels, educational levels or culture. Family violence is not just physical violence. One of the primary forms of violence is the use of power and control. Violence can include economic, financial and emotional abuse as well as physical violence.

The ACT Government is committed to addressing the critical issue of domestic and family violence in our community. New approaches to services, support, policy and partnerships are improving how people affected by domestic and family violence are supported, and how those who use violence are helped to stop.
