Therapeutic resources

Children and young people who have experienced trauma need help to heal and recover from what has happened in their lives. People important in a child’s life can help provide this support and show the child they are cared for.

An important part of this is to provide therapeutic care to the child. Therapeutic care is about providing children with positive, safe and healing relationships and experiences that are informed by an understanding of the impact trauma can have, child attachment and child development.

Below are resources that can help you provide therapeutic care. They have been developed especially for parents, carers and professionals working with children. Many of the strategies explained are also useful for parents and carers to use themselves to support their own wellbeing in caring for a child or young person who has experienced trauma.
