Stepping up for Agencies
Under A Step Up for Our Kids we have commissioned new services from providers to work in partnership with government to deliver better outcomes for our most vulnerable children, young people and their families. With the suite of reforms being introduced through A Step Up for Our Kids we want to see families kept together, fewer children entering care, better lives for those children that are in care and better support for foster and kinship carers in creating stable, happy homes for children and young people.
From January 2016, Uniting's Children and Families ACT program began providing a range of brand new services under the 'Strengthening High Risk Families' domain which is focused on providing supports within families to prevent children from coming into care, or return them home as soon as it is safe to do so. This includes services provided under programs for placement prevention, reunification and parent/child interaction. Additional supports are also available through the Mother and Baby Unit at Karinya House. and the Birth Family Advocacy Support Service.
From January 2016, the ACT Together consortium began providing out of home care services under the ‘Continuum of Care’ domain which brings together all of the service elements to support children and young people in long term care. The ACT Together consortium is made up of Barnardos Australia, the Australian Childhood Foundation, OzChild, Premier Youthworks and relationships Australia.
An Information Sheet on A Step Up for Our Kids for out of home care agencies is available to provide further information.
