Information for people who have completed an adoption process.

Adoption is a major life event for everyone involved. Whether you have adopted a child you already knew or not, or are the adopted child, you might need some additional support once the adoption is finalised. Post adoption support is available at any time after an adoption order has been granted.

ACT Together

Out of home care adoptions and permanent care arrangements

ACT Together is the approved care and protection organisation who partners with Child and Youth Protection Services. Specifically, ACT Together provides support services to children and their families who have been adopted from out of home care or other permanent care arrangements such as Enduring Parental Responsibility.

ACT Together can provide support and counselling, assistance with contact between the child and their birth family and referrals to other support services.

Local, step-parent and intercountry adoptions

Child and Youth Protection Services employs qualified specialists who recognise and understand the emotional complexity of adoption.

We are responsible for providing support services to children and their families who have been involved in local, step-parent or intercountry adoptions. We can provide mediation and counselling, referrals to other support services and assist with contact between the child and their birth family.
