ACT Charter of RightsThe Charter of rights for kids in care is for all children and young people who live with a family member other than their parents, a foster carer, residential home or are living independently.

The Charter talks about what children and young people can expect from the people who are looking after them when they are in care. All children and young people have a right to feel safe and cared for.

What are your rights

The rights are to:

  • be safe and looked after
  • be respected
  • be treated fairly
  • have fun, play and be healthy
  • be heard
  • have privacy and have your own things
  • ask questions about what is happening to you
  • have contact with the people you care about and know about your family and cultural history
  • go to school
  • to talk to people about things you don’t like or understand.
