What we do
We coordinate the ACT Government’s work to promote an inclusive and diverse city where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
We provide:
- services, programs and support for Canberra’s multicultural and linguistically diverse communities
- grants and awards that promote multiculturalism
- support for the Ministerial Advisory Council for Multiculturalism and the ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs.
Our services
- Citizenship ceremonies: hosting citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs so that new Canberrans can complete their Australian citizenship
- ACT Services Access Card: helping asylum seekers who are waiting to get a protection visa get ACT Government rebates and concessions
- Overseas Qualifications Assessments : free online assessments of overseas higher education qualifications
- Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre: a place for Canberrans to hire meeting and function rooms, celebrate and share their cultures, and get help settling into Canberra.
- Work Experience and Support Program: helping culturally and linguistically diverse Canberrans find meaningful employment.
Advisory councils and reference groups
Ministerial Advisory Council for Multiculturalism: advises the Minister for Multicultural Affairs on important issues for the ACT’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
