Our Booris, Our Way Implementation Oversight Committee

We monitor the Community Services Directorate’s progress to implement the recommendations in the Our Booris, Our Way review.

We are an independent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander committee that monitor's the Community Services Directorate’s (CSD) progress to implement the recommendations in the Our Booris, Our Way Report.

The Our Booris, Out Way Review considered how to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the ACT child protection system.

We’re focusing on making sure CSD implements the 28 recommendations for reform.

What we do

We give cultural advice to guide the reform of the ACT's child and youth protection system.

Our purpose is to:

  • improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families
  • make sure our children are supported and connected to their community, culture and country.

We meet each month to:

  • consider updates from CSD and other relevant groups
  • check implementation stays true to the intent of the recommendations.

We check CSD implements the recommendations appropriately. This is to ensure the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families. It includes their social, emotional and physical wellbeing.

We check CSD implements the recommendations fully to make sure:

  • the number of children entering care continues to reduce
  • children’s experience in care improves
  • pathways to leave care improve
  • children are restored to their family where it is safe to do so.

We consult with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. We listen to our Elders, young people and carers.

We also involve the Minister for Families and Community.
