The ACT is moving toward full transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). To provide people with disabilities, and their families, with choice over the services and supports they have in their life, the ACT Government has gradually been stepping-down Service Funding Agreements (contracts) that fund disability services. All of the funding that went to ACT disability service providers is transferring to the NDIS so it can be allocated to individual ACT NDIS participant packages.

The Territory continues to fund  four disability peak organisations.

On behalf of the Commonwealth  the Territory holds the contracts for:

  • transitional funding  to Information, Linkage and Capacity Building (ILC)  providers while ILC  arrangements are being developed.
  • specialist  disability services provided to clients over 65 years of age as part of the  Continuity of Supports program.

Organisations  that have been previously block funded by Disability ACT are listed below by  service type; to find out more about the services please contact the  organisation directly.

Community Access

Services designed to provide opportunities for people with disability to gain and use their abilities to enjoy their full potential for social independence. People who do not attend school, or who are not employed full-time mainly use these services.

The key features are that the services:

  • are flexible and responsive to personal needs and interests
  • range from educational to leisure and recreational pursuits
  • range from facility- to home-based activities
  • include supervision and physical care, and models which link people into activities which are offered to the whole community
  • range from long-term day support to time-limited and goal-oriented education that maximises personal independent functioning and may complement other community services.
